Domestic Season Plan complete

June 30, 2010

Hi Folks

Just confirmed my build up to the World’s…this year the World Series circuit is spread far and wide and based around ITU regional championships….it is an interesting decision and means that the best athletes will not be at these races as the sport is essentially European. As such, I will only race the ITU World Champs and no other ITU races this year….on the upside, the Australian Duathlon Series will provide perfect lead up races to World’s

Final Schedule:

July 18th WA 10km Champs

August 1 Gatton Grunt QLD Championships

August 15 Australian Duathlon Championships

August 19-24 Training Camp Quinninup

Sept 5 ITU World Championships Edinburgh, Scotland

Yokine….

June 24, 2010

Great night tonight at Yokine Reserve with the Front Runner Crew…it was 4*1500 (1000m at 10k pace then a drop down to 500m at 5k pace) with 90 sec rest…perfect training for quicker 5k and 10k racing…it was a blast from the past working with Paul Mackay and Todd Ingraham in our pace group….it was like a throw back to 10 years ago the three of us belting out the reps….the legs are feeling strong so looking forward to the State 10k in 3 weeks and then I will race the Gatton Grunt and Australian Duathlon Championships in August…then off to Europe for World’s.

GMF 10K Run

June 13, 2010

Great weekend in Kal for the GMF Run

It was a great event and attracted 822 participants which is fantastic. The run was a bit windy in the first half but a nice tail wind made the home run nice and quick. After the race it was great to watch the races at Kal-Boulder race track with my cousin, Dave and his daughter Laine and enjoy a few beers. I think in two weeks in the Goldfields I have drunk my annual quota!

Thanks again to Trevor and the team at Westland Autos for making the trip possible. I had a great time and hope the event continues bigger and better with a new format in 2011

Westland Autos support trip to GMF 10k Run

June 11, 2010

Thanks to Trevor and the team at Westland Autos on Boulder Ave, Kalgoorlie I am off this weekend for the annual GMF Run. The event starts at the “Superpit” and finishes at the recreation centre and is expected to attract over 700 runners.

I love competing in the regional events around our great state and am trying to get to as many as possible to see for myself what they are like. This is a great chance to tick one more box and work through my wishlist!

All the info about Westland autos is on their site www.westlandautos.com.au

Will post back post race

Goldfields Dreaming

June 6, 2010

Hi Folks

Well some things do actually happen very quickly in the bush, especially after a few beers at the pub. I have just spent the past three days in Leonora as  athletic director of the Golden Gift www.leonora.wa.gov.au and as always the weekend was fantastic. Most of Australia’s elite middle distance runners put on a fantastic show in the desert, while racing for Australia’s richest purse of over $30,000 in the Elite mile events!

During the post race debrief at the pub, Trevor from Westland Auto’s in Kalgoorlie and I came to a deal for me to race the GMF 10k in Kalgoorlie next weekend, so the flights are booked and the State Cross Country is off the calender. With both my parents from Kalgoorlie, family still in the town and a great personal affinity with the region I am excited to head back whenever I get the chance.

If you have never been out to the Goldfields and looked through the history and met the great people and characters, then you really are missing out. Take the chance to explore the region instead of another weekend down south, you won’t be disappointed

Will update you post race……
