Helena Valley

February 28, 2010

Ahh..nothing beats the breeding ground of the greats! When you are running strong at Helena Valley over the hilly 23k loop you know things are starting to look rosier…improving aerobic efficiency and muscular endurance are by far the easiest way to improve performance and it is great to see so many young fella’s out today putting in the hard yards…two of the young guys- Josh Tedesco and Ethan Heywood have both made the World Cross Country junior team and they are the first athletes since Ray Boyd to achieve this feat…it is a fantastic effort and full credit to them and there coach…needless to say success breeds success and I think the next generation of WA runners- with the right training and a decent track and night meets will re-write the record books of middle and long distance running in WA….

Howdy Folks

Just back from a quick 5 day holiday with the family in tropical Bali.  Very nice to relax and Lianne has been promised (for at least 4 years now!) a holiday without a bike and I finally caved in on her request!

The weekend prior was good to get back into racing at the Perth Crits for BROAD- the sensations were all good but my thresholds are low this time of year and there is plenty of work to be done over the next few months.Well done to our team in particular Ryan Fynn who has alot of talent and won sensationally in the final race at Leederville!

In other news, my new bike for 2010 Cannondale Super Six High Mod is just being made up at Cyclemania so looking forward to jumping on board…it is the first time I will ever have ridden a Durace groupset but I thought that this year I want zero excuses in my quest to be world champion

Finally, my training partner, travelling companion, super chef and all round nice guy, ”Jimmy” Attard gets married in Ballarat this weekend. Sebastian loves Jimmy so we have managed to cash in the frequent flyers and all be there for this special day! I am honoured to have the role of MC on the joyous occasion and no doubt his marriage to Emily- a great catch herself- is going see many happy days ahead!

First race for 2010 next week

Howdy Folks

Some great efforts from the squad last week at COP Triathlon. Well done to all the Front Runners!

My training is still just slow and steady as I continue to rehab the hamstring. A lack of intensity on the running track has me a little frustrated and looking forward to getting some quality back into the training once things are stronger.

This weekend, I will have the support race of the Perth Crits www.trievents.com.au This is my third year doing them as a season opener and  I find they are a good way to get a little bit of form. The main aim is to try and get some time hitting the wind and riding into and above threshold. I will be racing for my major sponsor BROAD and we have a solid line up to hopefully weave some magic

Last week was solid with 75k running and 300k on the bike….

Cheers
