Getting Stronger

January 16, 2010

Howdy Folks

It has certainly been the summer of love this year! One of the best things about being on Northern Hemisphere racing schedule is that I can really enjoy the summer here in Perth and we  have had plenty of weddings and parties with family and friends. Can you believe by the time we head to Europe we would have had 6 weddings this summer! Today we are getting ready for the wedding of one of my business partners, Nathan Doig and his partner Ash. It is going to be a scorcher outside and the of course later on the dancefloor!

As for training, I am not 100% satisfied with how much work I have been able to fit into busy days with family, work at the Running Centre etc but this time of year needs to be  family focussed as I will gardually be more and more focussed on the build up to the World Championships in September. I am a firm believer in Karma and I am always trying to maintain an awareness of more important aspects of life that will be around long after the racing flats are put to rest.

This week looked like this:

Monday Run 50 min Tuesday Bike 2.5 Run 45min Wed; Run Progressive Tempo 16k Thursday Bike 80 min

Friday Run 1 hour Saturday Bike 4hr Hills Run 35 Sunday Run 30

I will be looking for more and more volume on the run as my hamstring is starting to handle some load again without soreness which is promising

Hybrid theory?

January 3, 2010

Howdy Folks

Happy new year and all the best for 2010

Just back from a great 5 day break in Quinninup (Southern Forrests) with some solid training and plent of family time

The week looked like this:

Monday Run 40 min

Tuesday  Bike 60 min

Wednesday Run 55 minutes

Thursday ARRIVE QUINNINUP Bike 2.5 hours Run 40 min

Friday Bike 80/Run 40 Brick

Saturday Bike 3.5 Run 40

Sunday Run 2,5hours

Now the Sunday run (which was supposed to be 80 minutes) is where the intrigue starts….the “hybrid theory” shall we say…my training partner Paul Mackay is one of those little blokes who always gets his own way until you realise you have been running for 1.40 when you were only supposed to be out for 80 minutes….anyway I finally “agreed to disagree” with the direction back to our house and we went our seperate ways on different paths home….I assumed I was going to beat him back when the INCIDENT occured……what appeared to be a little Kangaroo on the track ahead didn’t “scare” as I ran towards it, I was surprised at this as normally they run away at the first sound of noise….instead this little bugga looked up and low and behold has started a bolt at me! I double took for a second and then realised I didn’t have time to take a third check……It was angry and a stocky little bugger and as I turned to run away I heard a noise which sounded like a wild pig grunting….anyway this hybrid RooBore wanted me badly and was coming after me like the clappers….I thought I was going to be bloody killed out in the middle of the forest! Eventually, I ducked off the track and into the bush and hid behind some giant Karri’s and then when the scene appeared clear ran the quickest 2km of my life back to where I left the track.

So I get home to relive the story and my theory is that this thing was a cross between a Roo and a Wild Bore! Everyone seemed to find it pretty amusing but deep in the forrest whose to say what happens when a Wild Bore wants his way? I am just happy that whatever the thing was it didn’t have it’s way with me
