14th World Duathlon Championships
Well I am very happy to report I am the 14th best duathlete in
the world!
To give you a brief oversight the first run was very fast. I
never found much rythym but after falling back at 4km from the
lead group managed to find my own tempo over the next 2km and
ran on well over the last 4km past some good athletes. I thought
we would bridge up to the lead group on the bike, we were only
down 20 seconds and had Benny Van Steelant, world no 2 Rob Woestenborough
and three strong french for compnay, plus the British athlete
Tom Lowe (7th 2006 WC). The times again were not accurate for
the 10km (28.48 for me, fastest 28.28) and this is very dissapointing
especially as I would have run a pb and around 30.45 for the
full distance. Multisport events lose a great deal of credibility
through a constant inability to accurately measure distances.
On the bike, we took a lap to get organised and never really
bridged back to the lead group who hovered 30sec in front. On
the last two laps I started to struggle with the tempo and turns
become very difficult at the front, thankfully we dropped some
athletes along the way (ave 43k/hr). On the second run my first
km was very strong but then I ran out of steam and dropped quite
a bit of time on the last lap. In the end I crossed the line
happy that I used all my resources to achieve the best possible
result.

2 years ago when I started training for duathlon I never realised
how far I would come in such a short period of time. With more
work I just have a feeling in my heart I can be world champion
some day. I must especially thank my patient and lovely fiancee
Lianne who has given me her great support over the past 7 weeks
as I chased my dreams. I owe ger a great deal of gratitude for
all her support and patience. To my family and friends who have
texted, emailed or called thank you. And finally my sponsors
Montlucon Triathlon (the winner Paul Amey is from the club),
RFID timing, CSK bikes, Asics, Ryders eyewear, Carboshotz, Cyclemania
and Swish Design.
Full results from the event are here.
Cheers
