Today (Sunday, July 20th), was the “Asics
10km Run for Gold” and I had a great tussle with WA 1500m,
5km and X country champion, Jonathon Allen. Ultimately, he proved
too strong on the day (winning time 31.19) but the race was a
very good hit out and my time of 31.28 was the fastest I have
run on the road in Western Australia. The lack of km markers meant
that the early pace was a bit ambitious (5km 15.30) and the last
2km a hard effort. This was however what this race was all about,
having a red hot crack and seeing how good a shape I was in.
The winter weather continues to be fantastic
here in Perth and except for a slight headwind in the last 2km
the conditions were perfect. Well done to the WA Marathon Club
on a well organised event and a big thank you to the events sponsors,
particularly Asics who have been supporting me for 6 years now-
every run which bares their name will have me on the start line
barring injury or overseas travel. The products are the best on
the market and Don and his team at Sportsworld of WA are fantastic.
Finally, thanks Lianne for taking such great
photos today.
