Powerman Malaysia
Lumut, Malaysia, Nov 11

Well my final race for the year turned out
to be a disappointing DNF at Powerman Malaysia. The heat/humidity
and hectic travel/race schedule of the past month taking it’s
toll.
After flying back from Europe in late October,
my training was a bit too eager in the first week or so and my
socializing probably a bit excessive. Insufficient recovery meant
that I dug myself a hole that I was unable to get out of before
the race.
The
race was a lesson in suffering…..I had very little energy
from about 3km into the first run and my power output on the bike
was non existant ……when you cook in Malaysia, you
fry! The decision to retire from the race 2km into the final run
was not taken lightly….I was especially disappointed given
the support from Adele and Melody at Quick Release Adventures.
They put on a great race and looked after the elite athletes very
well.
I must congratulate the other two West Aussies
who competed in Powerman Malaysia. Sally O’Dea, an emerging
athlete I am coaching, finished 4th female elite, while Scott
Mundell soldiered on in oppressive conditions to finish in good
form.
