Three Bears Meelup Triathlon Report
Yesterday I completed my first triathlon
in almost 8 years at the Three Bears Meelup Triathlon. I had
thought it must have been only 5 years but a quick check up
on the TWA results and all was revealed ... last race
was Rottnest Long Course 1999. That really is a long break
between swims ... and
I can’t say I really miss them!
The race was the brain child of the
great triathlete Ray Passmore who directed the event for many
years from it’s inception
in the mid 90’s. It is fantastic that Trievents have continued
to push on with the event and apply their professional race organisation
and event marketing. Yesterday was certainly a much bigger field
than I remembered in 1999 and the atmosphere was brilliant.
The race itself was great fun and the
only real disappointment was a poor bike ride. The lack of
swim preparation meant I gave the leaders about three minutes
out of the water and I think the fatigue from the swim coupled
with heavy training left the legs a little flat on the bike.
Onto the run, I finally felt settled and managed to move from
9th place into 3rd at the finish ... just
behind my good mate and training partner Steve Bishop but a long
way behind race winner Sean O’Neill.
Thanks to Trievents for putting on such a great race, CSK for
the new TT frame I got to ride, Darryl from Carboshotz for great
products and positive support, to Ken and Shirley Alexander for
their cheering and time checks and everyone else who gave me
a yell.
Well done to all those who finished the event and good luck
for the rest of your season
Cheers
