Well
very excited to report that today was my first international victory……
The race panned out beautifully with a hilly bike course and a
series of technical run legs around the Caldecotte Lake here in
Milton Keynes.
I led the lead pack of three through 10km in
32.39. The pack included two Brits, Oliver Mott (2nd U23 at European
Champs) and running specialist Phil Wylie. I attacked at around
8km on the bike up the 12% 1km gradient of Brickhill Road. The
climb gave me a 15 sec advantage which had stretched to 1 minute
by the completion of my 1.02.50 bike split. Getting off the bike,
I was a little concerned after the cramps at Rimini but fortunately
I knew 100m into the run the legs were fine and it was game over.
The run turned out to be fairly long (My run of just over 21 min
was fastest) so I savoured the moment and really enjoyed the finish.

The race really is a step up …. I have
to thank my sponsors at RFID Timing (who got a mention on the
live event feed) and the Shire of Leonora for funding the trip
here to Europe. Either way, should be perfect preparation for
Powerman Malaysia in 3 weeks…Tonight I will be popping open
a good bottle of red to celebrate!
Cheers
