2006 City
to Surf

Over 26,000 West Australians showed up and
competed today in near perfect conditions in the City to Surf
Fun run. It is an amazing event and I think that the numbers reflect
positively on the values and pride of our great city- the event
is second in numbers only to the namesake event in Sydney

The event once again attracted two of Australia’s
top runners chasing dollars at the event and skipping the National
X Country Championships held in Hobart on the same weekend. Going
in to the event I had two goals- to run a PB and the secondly
to be the first West Australian athlete across the line.
About
500m into the event I realised that it was going to be a real
tough day at the office. The legs were still a little numb from
the race last week and I couldn’t really get a good feel
at all during the race. I managed to persevere and was happy in
the end to cross the line in 4th place – with exactly the
same time as my PB 4 years ago 38.52!
Well done to John Allen who had a great run
to finish third and first WA runner- it was well deserved after
a very good winter season. The standard of WA running has certainly
improved and special mention must also go to young Courtney Carter
who finished 5th in the National Under 20 X Country Chamionships
on the weekend.
I will now take a week off running and
then prepare in September and October for a big race at Powerman
Malaysia on November 11. Keep up to date with that event at www.powerman.com.my
