The Perth National Series meet provided the perfect opportunity for me to test my fitness levels 5 weeks into my training for the upcoming season. For the past 2 weeks I have been training very hard with my good friends Paul Mackay and Mark Maslen who have been in town from the eastern states. The training has been made much easier by their presence.
The race was my first on the track at Perry Lakes since the corresponding event 4 years ago. I squeezed out a time of 8.39 for second place which coincidently was the same position as four years ago. Daniel Wallis, a young New Zealander, was too strong and ran away over the last 200m to win in a time of 8.37, while my Canning Districts AC team mates Shaphan Cox and Courtney Carter pushed hard throughout the race and crossed the line in 3rd and 4th place respectively.
The depth of times in the event was the best I can remember for sometime and it is good to see some young guns working hard and moving up the ranks. Meet results should be up at www.waathletics.org.au in the next few days.
