After more
than 12 months of constant training and competition, my first season
as a professional duathlete has now come to a close. During those
twelve months I have logged up over 15,000km on the bicycle and
3000km of running! I will have two weeks of rest before resuming
training on Dec 1st.
My highlights for the season were 2nd place
finishes at Powerman Ohio (May) and the Australian Duathlon Championships
(Aug), while the biggest disappointment was my last race at Powerman
Malaysia (Oct). The Heartbreaker Duathlon (Oct) in the UK was
also satisfying, as it was my first international victory.
Next season, I will reduce my cycle mileage
and focus more on my running (which has been neglected for 18
months). The aim will be to place in the top 15 at both the World
(Hungary, May 20th) and European (Edinburgh, June 17th) Duathlon
Championships next year and in the top 10 in one.
Thanks to Anthony Parish (former Aussie tri
pro now married to WA’s own Jane Kargotich) I will also
be racing for the Montlucon team http://www.montlucon-triathlon.com/
in France during the 2007 French Duathlon Grand Prix. This will
give me the opportunity to race more regularly against the best
duathletes in the world, particularly in the lead up to the World
Championships in Hungary.
I must thank all my sponsors at Shire of Leonora,
RFID Timing, Asics, Carboshotz, Ryders Eyewear & Swish Design
for their sensational support. It certainly would not be possible
to do what I do without their assistance. I am greatly indebted.
Thanks also to everyone who has checked out the site during the
year, your interest and support is greatly appreciated, particularly
those who have taken the time to write. To all my training partners-
especially Bishop, Sandy, Ben, Shaph, Carter, JP, Insane, Wheelers
& Stuart- thanks for keeping me honest and listening to my
ramblings. Rob Pickard and Nic Fragomeni have advised and kept
me focussed through the year. Finally, the biggest thanks to my
family and loved ones for all their patience, love and support.
See you in 2007
Regards
