Up to London

After 6-7 weeks training and preparing for the World Championships in France it is time to get a real job and earn some money. Hence, Lianne and I have rented a friends apartment in Hampton Wick, London for the next few months.

This location has been used by countless Australian distance runners over the past 10 years due to the proximity to the trails along the River Thames, Bushy Park, Home Park Golf Course, Richmond Park and Hampton Court gardens. It really is the perfect location to run. Biking is a little more difficult but thankfully have met up already with some professional cyclists and triathletes who I will be training with while I am here.

My recovery after the World Championships involved 6 days of easy training with only one session per day, this was necessary as my legs were completely smashed for at least 4 of those days. I resume hard twice a day training for the next two weeks before starting at taper for the European Championships in Edinburgh on June 16.

Today, I incorporated the Bushy Park 5km Time Trials into a training session. This is a weekly certified 5km TT around Bushy Park over mix of trail and grass. The records are held  by Craig Mottram 14.00 and Sonia O'Sullivan 16.22. The run is free and has built up to almost 400 runners every weekend. It is held in great spirit and always followed by coffee- extra hot is a necessity with the cold weather here! The results are at http://www.parkrun.com/Default.aspx?tabid=189, I have moved to 19th on the all time rankings!

Cheers
